Ho girato questo video nel nord della Finlandia, perché in quei luoghi è molto forte il dissidio fra “dentro” e “fuori”, fra abitazione e ambiente. La casa è la prima forma di possesso del territorio, è il tentativo di incapsularne una porzione escludendo tutto il resto. Nel video, questo tentativo fallisce. La prima inquadratura mostra una situazione armoniosa: una stanza piena di piante in vaso e, fuori dalla finestra, un bosco. A poco a poco il bosco si muove come un esercito shakespeariano vegetale all’attacco della casa. E anche all’interno i mobili proliferano vegetativamente, si degradano, si accatastano. La casa soccombe sotto un cumulo di legname, su cui svetta un albero solitario.

I shot this video in northern Finland, where there is a very strong rift between “inside” and “outside”, between home and the environment. The house is the first way of taking possession of the land; it’s an attempt to enclose a piece of it excluding everything else. In the video, this attempt fails. In the first shot everything is harmonious: there’s a room full of potted plants and, outside the window, the woods. But little by little the woods move in, attacking the house like a green Shakespearian army. On the inside, the furniture starts to grow, it proliferating, deteriorates and piles up. The house succumbs under a heap of wood, on which a lone tree stands.
