Ho girato molte sequenze di breve durata: alcune all’interno di set costruiti con carta e cartone, altre partendo da immagini bidimensionali trasformate poi con il collage e la pittura, altre ancora in stop motion muovendo sagome e ritagli su fondi diversi. Tutte descrivono una situazione, un’atmosfera, un passaggio e una traformazione di uno spazio: a volte questi sono stipati da oggetti fino al limite, altre volte si svuotano, a volte si trasformano attraverso strani e surreali movimenti, tutto però è raccontato attraverso gli oggetti, c’è solo una vaga percezione di una possibile presenza umana che soccombe al potere e all’autonomia degli oggetti e dello spazio. Non c’è una volontà di sequenza narrativa nel montaggio finale ma le diverse situazioni si legano l’una alle altre attraverso a una perenne sensazione di mistero e curiosità verso quel che accadrà nell’inquadratura successiva.

I shot several short sequences: some of them inside a paper and cardboard set; others from two-dimensional images later transformed with collage and painting; still others in stop motion, moving shapes and cut-outs around on different backgrounds. All of them describe a state, an atmosphere, a landscape and the transformation of a space. Sometimes they are crammed full of objects; sometimes they empty out; sometimes they’re altered by strange, surreal movements. Everything, however, is told through the objects. There is only vague perception of a possible human presence that succumbs to the power and autonomy of the objects and the space. The editing doesn’t seek a narrative sequence; the different states bind to one other in a constant sense of mystery and curiosity about what is going to happen in the next frame.
